A Move To Central Portugal
Dreaming of living in Central Portugal may seem like a fantasy, one that is filled with home delivered groceries provided by the local small village. In Lagares, Central Portugal you will discover a little village which has a range of local deliveries of fresh produce on offer. This charming and friendly rural neighbourhood is beautifully situated close enough to the connecting routes of IP3 and IC6 leading to the rest of Portugal.
So what does this charming position have to offer ? The larger village of Travanca do Mondego nearby is only a two minute drive away or alternatively it could be reached by foot in around ten min’s. This nearby community boasts a mini-supermarket for those goods not available for delivery to the door, two charming cafe’s doubling as bars, and fine primary level educational facilities for children.
For those who savour the outdoor life there are a number of recreational facilities and opportunities in the region such as horse riding, cycling, hiking and delightful woodland walks. In addition you will find many water activities in the area on the lakes created by the Barragem da Aguiera dam like fly fishing, [sailing,boating activities,] swimming or pedalos. This reservoir is created by the Rivers Alva and Mondego. As well as swimming, sunbathing, running a small dingy, or having a BBQ, there is the Montebelo Aguiera lake resort and marina plus plenty of other restaurants and bars in the area.
Mountains exist within a twenty five min drive, and here you will find the 27-hole Montebelo golf course. Located amongst the Serra da Estrela and Serra do Caramulo mountain ranges, thiscourse offers some of the most fine-looking surroundings in Central Portugal.
The small town of Pedro de Alva is merely 4 kilometres from Lagares. And here you can locate secondary education, health care, banking, a post office and various shops with many choices of refreshment in local bars and cafe’s’. If you happen to crave a more urban setting once in a while, the towns Mortagua, Penacova, Santa Comba Dao, and Coimbra are within a half hour’s drive. Coimbra offers several large malls with cinema’s, bowling and vast food halls. It is a beautiful and historic University City, and home to the Universidade de Coimbra. The Universidade was founded long ago, in 1290. Coimbra, presents you with a variety of optical and culinary experiences to enjoy A short drive away you will find the historical Roman ruins of Conimbriga for a memorable day trip.
Lagares is in the central area of Portugal, within close proximity to some stunning areas, including the Serra da Estrella National Park that sits an hour’s drive east. There is also the potential to visit many beaches, the nearest at Figueira da Foz just forty five minutes drive away.
Casa do Poço Velho is a stunning spacious 4 bedroom house in Portugal with about half an acre of south facing, fertile land close to the beautiful university city of Coimbra. It is situated in a lovely area at the end of the small and friendly village of Lagares and is the last house on a track leading into the forest with fantastic views over the surrounding forests to the distant Serra da Lousa mountains.
